On the behalf of the Society for Social Choice and Welfare, Maurice Salles organized the first meeting of the Society for Social Choice and Welfare in Caen in June 1992. Hervé Moulin had the heavy duty to chair the programme committee. Kenneth Arrow (Nobel 1972), Amartya Sen (Nobel 1998) and John Harsanyi (Nobel 1994) participated in this first meeting, as well as their successors as presidents of the Society, Claude d’Aspremont, Salvador Barberà, Bhaskar Dutta, Marc Fleurbaey, Hervé Moulin, Prasanta Pattanaik, Hans Peters, John E. Roemer, Arunava Sen, Kotaro Suzumura, William Thomson and John Weymark. Two of the 2007 Nobel prize laureates, Eric Maskin and Roger Myerson were also present to the meeting.
